Outdoor Arenas Closed for Public Riding/Cancelled Events

In an effort to protect our equine community all outdoor arenas are closed for opening riding Monday, August 11th through labor day weekend due to the VS outbreak.

Please note the following shows have been cancelled:

August 14-17th Top of the Rockies
August 22-24th Continental Divide Morgan Horse Show

Thank you for your cooperation!

Due to the VSV Outbreak in Colorado, the Inaugural TOTR Event has been cancelled. Please see below for more information...

It is with a heavy heart and great disappointment and sadness that we must cancel the previously planned inaugural year for the Top of the Rockies Horse Show and Educational Event.  Due to a spreading outbreak of the Vesicular Stomatitis virus, horse owners and trainers from around the region are leery of travelling with their horses to places of communal stalling.  We applaud any horse owner who puts the health and safety of their equine athlete among their priorities and we look forward to announcing plans for a postponed inauguration.  Stay tuned for more information.  Questions?  Please call us at (303) 525-3964.  Thank you for your continued support.

JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SALE AT LARIMER COUNTY FAIR ON AUG. 6 WORKS TO SUPPORT 4-H YOUTH

ANOTHER YEAR OF GROWTH EXPECTED TO SUPPORT 4-H YOUTH IN LARIMER COUNTY

Loveland, CO – One of the staples of the Larimer County Fair is the Junior Livestock Sale. Taking place on the last day of the fair, the livestock sale will be the real grand finale for many of the Larimer County youth that are participating. The 2014 Junior Livestock Sale will take place on Wednesday, August 6 at 4:30 p.m. in the Ranch-Way Feeds Livestock Pavilion.

Each year, anywhere from 200 to 250 kids, from ages 8-19 years old, participate in the Junior Livestock Sale. The primary purpose of the sale is for the youth to learn responsibility, time management skills, record keeping and public speaking, while working to earn back their investment on the animal they are selling. The majority of the youth have spent their own money on the initial investment for caring and feeding of their animal. Additionally, most of these kids will use the prize money earned from selling their animal to go towards education, or to save up for a big purchase, such as a car.

This program strives to help Larimer County youth become responsible leaders that are invested in their home community, but also to bring the best animals in the county to be exhibited as safe and wholesome products.

In order to support the youth in as many ways possible, several buying options are available to bidders and supporters. Buyers can purchase the animal for personal consumption, or contribute to the youth without actually purchasing the animal. There are options available to resell the animal or to contribute an “add-on,” essentially a monetary donation, to a specific youth or species. Buyers are encouraged to purchase as buying groups or organizations as well.

Sales are expected to continue rising this year, as they have for the past few years, and businesses who have not participated before are encouraged to come join in the fun!

The 2014 Larimer County Fair, presented by Colorado Lottery, runs from August 1-5 at The Ranch Events Complex in Loveland. Events at this year’s Fair include Gnarly Barley Brew Festival, presented by Shock Top on Saturday, August 2; The PRCA Rodeo, presented by Pedersen Toyota, August 3-5; Agfinity Fireworks, August 1-2 and much more. HANSEN FAMILY HONORED AS LARIMER COUNTY FAIR 2014 FAMILY OF THE YEAR

“FAMILIES LIKE THE HANSENS ARE THE EMBODIMENT OF LARIMER COUNTY, THE FAIR, AND ALL OF THOSE INVOLVED.”

Loveland, CO – The Larimer County Fair & Rodeo Board are proud to present the 2014 “Family of the Year,” the Hansens. The Hansen family holds decades worth of contributions and achievements within the agriculture industry, not only in Colorado, but across the nation. The family’s involvement in and service to the Larimer County Fair, local and national agriculture organizations, Colorado State University, and the community of Northern Colorado make for a humbling recognition and prove why their family is so worthy of this award.

“On behalf of the Hansen families, it is an honor to be recognized by a program and event that we have all been involved in for three generations” said Carl Hansen.

The Hansens are comprised of four families starting with Ed and Marilyn Hansen and branching off to the families of their three children: Carl, Cheri, and Chris. They work together to run their fifth generation cattle ranch that was originally purchased by the father and grandfather of Ed Hansen. The ranch has been an active member of the local, state and national Cattleman’s Association since 1955 and thrives on its 15,000+ acres today in Northern Colorado.

The Hansen family’s roots run deep in connection with the Larimer County Fair & Rodeo. Carl, Cheri and Chris grew up loving the land, livestock and agriculture lifestyle just as much as their parents. All were members of the Livermore 4-H club and competed in 4-H, showing livestock, horses, swine and more.  They also competed in rodeo throughout their childhood, as well as college and adult years. The family continues to support the Larimer County Fair & Rodeo and undoubtedly believes in the need for 4-H programs for our youth and the future of agriculture. For five generations, the Hansen family has embodied a love for family, community, agriculture, and hard work, as well as a commitment to traditions and values that will continue to be carried on in generations to come. Be sure to look for the Hansen’s story in this year’s Larimer County Fair & Rodeo Program to see why they truly deserve to be called the “Family of the Year.”
